Incorrect version of database issue when running Management Reporter Migration Wizard

When running the Management Reporter Migration Wizard, user can get the connect test successful but got the error message after click Next button:

The version of the database is incorrect. Install the correct version of the database.

After investigating the issue on the server, I found the issue was related to the wrong version of Migration Wizard. The solution is to uninstall the Migration Wizard currently installed and install the same version as the MR server and Client version.

Build AX Enterprise Portal in Windows 2008 R2 DMZ network

As per request from our client, we need to set up the AX Enterprise Portal into DMZ network and provide the public URL to external customers to access.

I have built the EP with WSS 3 in Windows 2008 R2 but got the access issue if using URL while I can access the EP via the IP. Once I access the EP using URL, I am asked to enter username and password. After typing 3 times, I got a blank page. The error never occurs in Windows 2008.

After searching many documents in the internet, I got the solution from Redjockey’s blog (http://spiderwool.blogspot.com/2010/09/access-denied-host-header-sharepoint.html)
that is to add the URL in registry on the IIS server:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\MSV1_0
  3. Right-click MSV1_0, point to New, and then click Multi-String Value.
  4. Type BackConnectionHostNames, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click BackConnectionHostNames, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type the host name or the host names for the sites that are on the local computer, and then click OK.
  7. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the IISAdmin service.

Overview Dynamics AX 2012 Installation

too many screenshots need to be published. IF you cannot view the pictures, you can go to the link: http://www.fileserve.com/file/cqg6Msu to download the copy of my installation document. If you need a full detail of the installation document, please wait Microsoft to publish the one for RTM version.

Step 1. Install Microsoft Dynamics AX Components

Step 2. Install File Location Step

3. Setup Support Files will be installed Step

4. Choose Custom Installation Step

5. Choose the Components that you want to install ( using the sequence Databases  Application Object Serve r  Client)

Step 6. Installation will validate if the prerequisite software has been installed on the system. Click Error in the result to check what you can do .

Step 7, After fixing all the Error message and investigate the warning message, click Next to continue the installation

Step 8. Create a new Database

Step 9. Choose the Additional Models to install Step

10. Set up AOS and AOS Service account Step

11. Configure AX Client Step

12. Click Next until finish. Step

13. Now, we can continue installing Reporting Extensions and Analysis Extensions. Specify SSAS and SSRS Instance After validating the prerequisite, the installation process can be finished. As I checked the Deploy Reports when I set the SSRS instance, the Installation will deploy the reports directly via PowerShell. Not Like AX 2009, AX 2012 doesn’t need to create a folder and data source in AX first. The Powershell will create one automatically. Step 14. Enterprise Portal Installation Check the Enterprise Portal option to install it directly. Same as AX 2009. The basic AX 2012 installation has been finished. Based on my experience, Dynamics AX 2012 provide much better function than 209. When you get the issue during the installation, you can check the error message that shows you how to troubleshoot the issue.

Enjoy your AX 2012!

Dynamics AX 2009 SP1 AOS Server crashes randomly

One of our customers  complained that their AOS server started crashing randomly everyday. The application or System configuration had not been modified before that.

When I went to the Event Viewer and check the Application event log, I could only find one useless error message.

All the troubleshooting work had been implemented as below:

1. install Windows SDK Debugging tools

2. Collect the AOS Crashes information to a dump file

3. Analysis the dump file. The information in the dump file (access violation exception in the instruction Ax32Serv!SqlStmt::GetFetchedDataContents+180) shows the issue can be resolved by AX 2009 Sp1 Rollup 3 or later hotfixes.

https://mbs2.microsoft.com/knowledgebase/KbDisplay.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;974118

4. download Rollup 3 ( I downloaded Rollup 6) and Upgrade the Object Server to RU 6. After that, I solved the problem.

Please note that, not all the AOS crashes issue can be fixed via RU3 or later. You need to diagnostic the issue via the dump files if you cannot get enough information from the Event Log.

Dynamics AX 2012 CTP VPC activation error 0xc004c020

When setting up the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 VPC on Hyper-V server, a message popped up and asked to activate the Windows 2008 R2 system. But I got the error message in the beneath when I tried to activate it.

The issue is related to the MAK license that has exceeded the maximum limits. You don’t need to reenter a new Windows CD-Key or extend the evaluation period.

Solution:

1. Go to Windows Start Menu, click Run –> SLUI 05

2. choose your current country

3. call the number and enter the instalaltion ID shown on the Windows

4. type the activation ID you get through the phone

5. Done

AX Users can only view EP main site without any AX content

After transferring AX modification and 3rd party application to Microsoft Standard VPC Refresh 4 version, I found that only Administrator account can view the whole Enterprise Portal while others can only see a standard WSS 3.0 website without any AX contents.

If I opened the Enterprise Portal website using two user accounts, I can see there is no web user session in AX Online User. Assuming the error comes from the business proxy account as it is the domain admin Contoso\Administrator by default, I created a new domain account and changed the business connection account to the new domain account, the issue has been resolved.
